Suzhou Daily: Making MEMS "China Core" bigger and stronger, Minsheng Co., Ltd. is based in Suzhou to develop and deploy core technologies for the entire industry chain

Developing and Strengthening China's MEMS "Chip"

Minsic's Suzhou-based R&D and Full Industry Chain Core Technology

Reporter Dai Xiaogang

With the development of the times, audio and video have become the main carriers of human-computer interaction, among which sensors play a very important role. MEMS microphones, through the integration with algorithms, can achieve a better user experience such as longer-distance voice control and voice positioning while ensuring clear sound quality.

Located in the Suzhou Industrial Park Nanometer City, Suzhou Minsic Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. is a leading enterprise in the field of MEMS sensors, and as the first company in the industry, it was listed on the STAR Market in August 2020. The company's current main product lines include MEMS acoustic sensors, MEMS pressure sensors, and MEMS inertial sensors. In its 15 years of establishment, the company founder Li Gang has led Minsic to develop the domestic MEMS industry chain from scratch, realizing the domestic production of all production links of MEMS sensors.

In short, MEMS utilizes semiconductor manufacturing technology to manufacture electromechanical systems on silicon wafers that can collect external signals. "Currently, not only traditional smartphones, but also wireless earphones, smart speakers, tablet computers, etc., have already used MEMS microphone sensors. Emerging electric vehicles, Metaverse (AR/VR, etc.), and smart home markets also have a large number of incremental demands. Our company's MEMS microphone sensor chip shipments have already ranked third globally." Minsic's vice general manager Zhang Chenliang proudly stated. More than ten years ago, MEMS sensors were monopolized by a few international "players." Minsic was one of the earliest MEMS companies established in China. In the first few years, the domestic MEMS industry chain was still a blank slate, and Minsic was an important promoter of the localization of the domestic MEMS industry chain.

Currently, brands such as Xiaomi, Lenovo, Samsung, Baidu, and Alibaba use Minsic's MEMS acoustic sensor products. "Entering these brands is not easy. Acoustic sensors are unlike other components; once they fail, users have zero tolerance, so the quality requirements for our products are very high, which requires control over the entire industrial chain." Zhang Chenliang revealed that in addition to investing in and establishing a wholly-owned subsidiary, Desbei Electronics, specializing in MEMS packaging technology, the company took a stake in Suzhou Yuanxin Industrial Investment Center in 2021, actively building a MEMS pilot fab platform. After completion and commissioning, it will greatly enhance Minsic's MEMS industrial support capabilities.

In the future, Minsic will be based in Suzhou, seizing opportunities in the domestic MEMS market and technological innovation, to make China's MEMS "chip" bigger and stronger.
